Following Shankar’s legendary journey from *Chander Pahar*, **Amazon Obhijaan (2017)** sets a grand visual stage but fails drastically in its execution. While the cinematography captures the breathtaking and perilous beauty of the Amazon rainforest beautifully, the script takes too many creative liberties that shatter the film's immersion. The biggest letdown is the sheer lack of realism in crucial survival sequences. The scene where a giant Anaconda attacks the protagonist Shankar (played by Dev) feels incredibly staged, overly CGI-dependent, and highly unrealistic for a gritty adventure film. Furthermore, the performances completely disrupt the tone. While Dev tries his best to maintain his grounded adventurer persona, the female lead and her father deliver heavily dramatized, loud overacting that feels cartoonish rather than intense. Their theatrical expressions drain the tension from what should have been life-or-death situations. In short, it's a visually ambitious Bengali project that suffers from poor writing and loud performances. Worth a one-time watch only for the canvas, but don't expect the authentic survival grit of the prequel.
